Saturday 9th July – e-bike ***** – Around Felixstowe including breakfast at Levington– sunny periods and hot.

Our plan today was to head over to watch the Pin Mill barge race which started around ten which gave us time for a bit of a lay in doing ‘wordle’ it is after all what we call stataday where Mag works out our scores for the week, yes sad I know:) Then with breakfast packed we set off at 9.30, a quick detour to the town centre post office before heading out into the countryside, at this point there is a lot of cloud with a bit of an offshore breeze which the e-wheel makes light work of! Though the lovely tree lined path surrounded by mainly wheat this year, a tractor is working a field causing a big dust cloud! We were going to sit on the bench at Levington Marina to watch the barges pass but the first were already heading our way so we stopped on the beach in Levington Bay just to the left of Loompit lake which proved a better spot. We enjoyed our Weetabix and fruit with a cuppa with me busily snapping away, I even took my big lens! It is a beautiful spot to sit, us and only a few dog walkers enjoying the waves of slow-moving old barges glide majestically past with the outgoing tide aiding their progress! There were maybe a dozen barges out racing, always great to see, then well rested we continue past Loompit Lake, full of swans including some cygnet’s, the first we have seen this year! A quick spin around Levington Marina before heading inland reaching the huge footbridge over the railway and onto Candlet Lane. Followed by the Grove woods and home. I had one eye on the weather for a sea breeze to develop, a few mated headed down to The Dip but I checked the webcam and Landguard weather station and it looked marginal at best so decided to stay at home and do my exercises in the hot sunshine in the back garden:)
Then around 5.30 as we watched a corny film on Netflix we heard a plane, at first, we thought it was the Spitfire so went out the front to investigate and were surprised to so a single plane doing a display with smoke trails too, even a big heart in the sky too. We later discovered it was for a couple’s anniversary, hope Mag is not expecting the same as it could cost a bob or too!!!!
The hot weather is set to continue, getting to 30 degrees for a couple of days!
